What Is PM Surya Ghar Yojana?
Under this scheme, the government provides:
- Direct subsidy of up to ₹78,000 for rooftop solar installation
- 300 units of free electricity per month for eligible households
- Low-interest loans through nationalized banks
- Net metering — sell excess electricity back to the grid
Subsidy Amount by System Size
- 1 kW system: ₹30,000 subsidy
- 2 kW system: ₹60,000 subsidy
- 3 kW system: ₹78,000 subsidy (maximum)
- Above 3 kW: Same ₹78,000 cap applies
Who Is Eligible?
- Indian citizens with an own residential property
- Must have a valid electricity connection
- Property must be suitable for rooftop solar (strong roof)
- No previous solar installation on the property
How to Apply — Step by Step
- Visit pmsuryaghar.gov.in or the national portal
- Register with your mobile number and Aadhaar
- Select your state and electricity distribution company (DISCOM)
- Submit the online application form
- Get site inspection from your DISCOM
- Choose an empanelled installer from the approved list
- Get installation done
- Submit completion documents to DISCOM
- Net meter installation by DISCOM
- Subsidy credited directly to your bank account

Important: Use an MNRE-Approved Installer
To claim the subsidy, you must use an installer empanelled with your state's DISCOM or MNRE. Always verify your installer is approved before signing any contract.
